The police later have granted bail to all protest leaders unconditionally after PAD lawyer used thee senatorial positions as surety for bail

After the Court of Appeals on Thursday revoked three more serious charges, including treason, against the PAD’s nine core leaders, five PAD core leaders turned themselves in at the Nang Lerng police station.

They are Sondhi Limthongkul, Somsak Kosaisuk, Piphob Thongchai, Suriyasai Katasila, Amorn Amornrattananont, and Terdbhumi Jaidee.

Somkiat Pongpaiboon, another PAD core member and Democrat list-MP, later reported to police despite being granted immunity as a parliamentary privilege.

After the charges of insurrection were dropped, the Criminal Court allowed two PAD core leaders Maj-Gen Chamlong Srimuang and Chaiwat Sinsuwong to be released after a lawyer used a senatorial position as surety as bail in lieu of Bt100,000 each.

However, the court maintained two less serious charges of illegal assembly and inciting unrest.

The warrants for the arrest of the nine leaders were issued on August 27, one day after the PAD protesters break into the state-owned NBT television station and later seized Government House.

Mr. Sonthi said at the rally at Government House on Thursday that the core leaders of PAD, including himself, would surrender to police on Friday if the police guaranteed that they would be allowed immediate bail. (TNA)
