Security Guards Surrender In Brit Drowning Case

Three Walking Street nightclub security guards surrendered themselves to Pattaya police in connection with the drowning death of a British tourist after an altercation. The guards were released after being processed, while the police investigation continues.

PATTAYA – December 3, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 3 p.m., it was announced at the Pattaya police station that three security guards had surrendered themselves in connection with a fight that led to the death of a British tourist. The announcement was made by Pol. Lt. Col. Kiettisak Sathongoy, Deputy Superintendent; Pol. Lt. Col. Preecha Samrit; and Pol. Lt. Col. Anak Prasertsuk, Inspector.

The three security guards work at the Marine Hotel Discotheque in the Marin Yensabai hotel on Soi Yensabai, Phratamnak road, south Pattaya. The suspects were identified as Mr. Somkid Wernkratok, age 38; Mr. Sompoj Sukonthapreuk, age 43; and Mr. Pramek Maokramol. They are accused of together trying to beat other people resulting in someone’s death.

The three security guards reportedly used a hard wooden stick and a baton to beat the three British tourists. The tourists then tried to escape by running out to Walking Street and were chased by the guards. The tourists then dashed through an open-air seafood restaurant on Walking Street and jumped into the ocean to escape. While swimming, one man drowned while the other two tourists were assisted by onlookers to safety.

The security guards told police that they had confronted the drunken British tourists inside the disco, because the tourists were molesting the female cleaning staff of the hotel. The confrontation led to a fight, which was recorded on the hotel’s CCTV.

After their surrender at the police station, the security guards were informed of the accusations against them to be acknowledged. The guards were later released without posting bail, since they had voluntarily surrendered to defend themselves against the charges.

The drowning victim, Mr. Patrick Lawrence Malloy, age 28, has a lengthy criminal history. He has been arrested and imprisoned several times in England for violent drunken assaults. He is reportedly married and has a young child. Another British tourist involved in the altercation also has been convicted of violent assault in England.


Drunk Brit Fleeing From Thai Men Drowns In Ocean

Three British foreigners were chased by a gang of Thai men on Walking Street after getting into a bar fight. The Brits ran through the Tangkay seafood restaurant and jumped into the ocean, where one of the men drowned. The 29-year-old victim was just released from an English prison for assault, and reportedly has a criminal history of violence.
