Security Guard Breaking Up Beef Goes Ballistic

A 21-year-old Thai man died after being shot four times outside a restaurant by a security guard. The guard was reportedly being beaten by while trying to break up a brawl, so he pulled out his gun and began shooting. He fled the scene afterwards.

May 2, 2013, at 5 a.m., a report of a man being fatally shot in a restaurant was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Chaiporn Nathongpheang, Inspector police on duty of Don Hualor police station, together with Pol. Col. Jak Pharaphanthakul, Superintendent.

The incident occurred outside the Tawandaeng Sardsaengdeuan restaurant, Moo 4 Tambon Don Hualor, Amphur Meuang, Chonburi province.

At the scene, officers found the corpse of Mr. Sakchai Katekaew, age 21, from Surin province. He was lying on the ground about 30 meters from the restaurant, wearing jeans and a green shirt.

The victim had been shot 4 times with a 9 mm gun. He was shot 3 times in the back, and once in his left leg.

The police questioned a friend of the victim, identified as Mr. Suthisit Kokang, age 24. He told officers that he and Mr. Sakchai and 6 other friends worked at Sahachol Engineering Co., Ltd.

Because it was the Labor Day holiday, they had come to drink liquor in the restaurant. But while they were drinking, Mr. Sakchai got into a quarrel with a group of teenagers in the restaurant, so they fought together.

The security guard of the restaurant came to forbid them from fighting, but the group of teenagers turned to beat the guard. So the guard took out a gun to shoot the group of teenagers several times, as they ran away in many directions.

When the noise of gunshots stopped, he found that his friend Mr. Sakchai had been shot until he died, and was lying down on the ground.

The security guard escaped after the shooting. The police will investigate the owner and staff of the restaurant to follow up to arrest the security guard to prosecute according to the law.
