School Bus With Kids Kills Dead Drunk Thai Man

A 28-year-old construction worker who was drinking all night was killed by a school bus while crossing a Sattahip street. His elder sister said her brother had been drinking 30 proof liquor in front of her house, and then left to walk home the next morning. None of the 30 students in the bus was injured.

SATTAHIP – February 1, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 7:40 a.m., a report of a bus killing a pedestrian was received by Pol. Capt. Narate Boonthee, investigation officer, Sattahip police station. He went to check the scene with the rescue officers of Sawangrojjanatharmmasatharn Sattahip foundation.

The incident occurred on Sukhumvit road km. 171/400 route Pattaya-Sattahip at Soi Sattahip Sukhumvit 13 Moo 4 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

At the scene, officers discovered the body of the victim lying on the middle of the road in the left lane. He had died of a broken neck and skull, with brain fragments dispersed over the road.

He was identified as Mr. Tom Intharajinda, age 28, occupation construction worker, living in Tambon Thapluang, Amphur Meuang Nakornpathom, Nakornpathom province.

Nearby was the blue parked bus containing more than 30 students, ranging from kindergarten to secondary school level. None of the students was hurt, but they were all frightened by the traumatizing event.

The bus belonged to the Center of Training New Soldiers, Naval Education Department. Its front end suffered slight damage from the impact. Waiting for the police was the still-shaken bus driver, identified as Petty Officer First Class Veerayuth Karoonyavate, age 26.

Mr. Veerayuth told police he had picked up the students to take them to Sattahip schools in the area. They are all children of government officers living in military housing at the Center of Training New Sailors.

While driving the bus, Mr. Veerayuth saw the drunken victim walk to the traffic island, and then abruptly run to cross the street in front of the bus. Mr. Veerayuth had no time to react and avoid hitting the victim.

Police later questioned the older sister of the victim, identified as Mrs. Boonmee Pornboon, age 45. She said her younger brother always drank liquor. He had been drinking 30 proof liquor in front of her house from yesterday evening until the early morning. Then he left to walk back home, and got hit by the bus. Mrs. Boonmee said her brother had left her house less than 10 minutes before he was killed.
