School Boys Assist in Arrest of Desperate Thieves in Pattaya

A group of primary school boys assisted in the apprehension of two thieves on Sunday afternoon. The thieves were arrested after a group of youths caught the them “red-handed,” crying out to local residents for assistance.

Pattaya, the 11th of July 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 2:30pm on Sunday, Captain Somphol Yuttaya (Banglamung Police Investigator) was notified of an attempted robbery along Soi 13 of the North Pattaya Road. At team of officers were immediately dispatched to the incident to investigate.

At the scene, officers found the two offenders, Mr. Nuttee Sookchalerm [29] and Mr. Pratoun Kettawong [28], had been caught by local residents in possession of a stolen motorbike and a variety of construction tools.

Under interrogation, Mr. Sookchalerm confessed that both he and Mr. Kettawong had lost their jobs and had been unable to find work for several months. He explained that they had resorted to thieving from local houses and construction sites as a means to survive.

According to witnesses to the crime, Master Nattapong Keeopet [10] and a group of school friends from the Aksorn Group Primary School had been playing in the area when they noticed the two offenders attempting to steal from the construction site. The boys allegedly yelled out to local residents and workers who were then able to apprehend the criminals and return the stolen possessions.

The two men will now be remanded in police custody awaiting further judicial proceedings to commence.
