Save Your Pity. They Don’t Need It.

Whether you like Sport or not, you have to admire the amount of pain, and effort, that Athletes put into it. You do don’t you ?

Well, I do anyway. I am a dedicated ‘Couch Potato’. Have been all my adult life. But, when I see those incredibly fit people running, jumping, throwing….. and whatever, I am filled with Admiration, with a capital A, and when they win, and proudly get the Medal, for which they have worked so hard , it brings a tear to my eye. Bless ‘em all.

Nothing, in this awful World, in which we have to live today, is more admirable, in a Human Being, than totally dedicated effort.
The sheer determination, to be reach a Goal. Men and Women, who practise, day and night, in order to achieve, heights of perfection, that us, inferior mortals, consider, just too tiring to even think about, are nothing less than Heroes, in my book.
And if they are physically disabled……SUPER HEROES!

Many years ago, Britain’s ex-Prime Minister, Winston Churchill, then a very old man, was invited to give a talk, to the students of Eton, his childhood College.
On the day, the Assembly Hall was crammed with Students, and Staff, all anxiously waiting to hear, what the Great Man would have to say….. What Pearls of Wisdom would he impart ?

He was over an hour late. But, eventually, he shuffled in, puffing his big cigar. He stopped centre stage….. You could hear a pin drop. Then Winston stood, and looked, virtually every person present, in the eye. It took ages……Absolute silence.
Then, in that uniquely famous voice, the Free World had grown to love, trust and admire, during the 1939-45 World War, he very slowly growled,  “NEVER………..NEVER………NEVER……..NEVER, NEVER, NEVER GIVE-UP!”. After that, he simply turned, and left.

A wave of disappointment swept the Hall. Was THAT ALL? Few of those present, at Eton College that day, seemed to realise, they had learned one of the most important lessons in Life. But they had……..

History also tells, us not to give-in, when the going gets tough. Never to take the Negative remarks, of those who would put-us-down, as Gospel Truth.

Proof. If indeed proof of that was needed, I got the other day.
Here, in Pattaya, I saw, how so many, very brave, and determined people, from many Countries, had battled adversity, and overcome the most incredible physical odds, to become successful Athletes.

Did they let a little thing like having no legs, stop them from playing Basket Ball? No Sir. Or Tennis, or Fencing? Not at all. They simply played it in a Wheelchair. And They were fantastic!

At Pattaya’s ‘NATIONAL SPORT FOR THE DISABLED 2006’.
Winners and losers, we stood, and loudly applauded them all.
As, of course, we do, Pattaya Redemptions Foundation, and Pattaya City Council. The organisers of that wonderful, uplifting event.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Pattayadailynews, wishes to extend it’s heartiest congratulations, to everyone involved. Thank you ……..
