Sattahip, 2 April, 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At 2.30am, a sting operation was ordered on the ‘Alangkarn’ brothel, located in Sattahip Market, at 0105/1, Chai Talay Road, Sattahip, by Mr. Chaicharn Iamjarern, the Sattahip Marshal, after a tip off from an anonymous local about under-age prostitutes using drugs working in the brothel.

The sting task squad was led by Capt. Suranan Saengrattanakul (Special Performance Center Chief) along with Mr. Surachet Kaewkham (Sattahip Deputy Administrator) and undercover officers. Initially, a number of officers were sent to the brothel to buy ya-ba from Watsana Phearphan [18] from Udon Ratchathani. The officers subsequently found 20 ya-ba tablets on her. She confessed to having bought the drugs in collaboration with Miss Kob Muanloa [30] a colleague in the brothel, who was selling the ya-ba at Bt300 per tablet.

Next, the undercover Special Performance Centre officer went to the brothel under the pretext of buying sex from Miss Muanloa, the drug dealer, for Bt500. Whilst staying in the room, the officer was ordered to search for ya-ba and found 72 tablets in her bag. Subsequently, the whole undercover squad surrounded the brothel and raided it, catching 9 prostitute-drug users, identified as the misses A [17], Prapha Inthawong [24], Nun [17], Nuanchawee Khunjorn [23], Thanatda Sara [23], O [17], I [15], Saengduen Namhorm [24], and Wanna Nukaew [24]. The ladies all proved positive when given urine tests.

All the female suspects confessed that they regularly bought ya-ba from Miss Muanloa at Bt300 a tablet. There had been a number of other female suspects who had fled and jumped into the sea, nearby. Miss Muanloa and Miss Phearphan were charged with the possession of a Class1 drug (ya-ba ) with intent to sell, whilst the other 9 were charged with drug-use and prostitution.

Miss Muanloa confessed that she had bought the ya-ba from a dealer named ‘Hin Bon-kai’ for Bt200 per tablet with the money that she had borrowed from an investor in the market who charged her 20% interest. She admitted to selling the drug to her colleagues, and close customers in the brothel, but had never sold to strangers. In the past, there had been previous sting operations, but none had been successful in catching offenders of either category, i.e. drugs and under-age prostitution.
