Sattahip Locals Face Respiratory Problems Due to Soy Dust

Locals including children in Plutaluang, Sattahip have been suffering from respiratory problems due to soy dust. The Sutthahip District Deputy Governor and officers contacted the local community to solve the problem

Sutthahip, July 12, 2011, (PDN) Mr Surachet Keawkam, Sutthahip Prevention and Suppression Deputy Governor along with Mr Sumeti Siripan,Plutaluang Subdistrict Headman, Mr Suchart Meunob, Plutaluang Headman and representatives from Plutaluang Subdistrict Administrative Organization went to Moo 8, Plutaluang district to solve the soy dust problem in their community.

Many of locals complained to the Sattahip district regarding the soy dust problem. Some of their children showed asthma and allergy symptoms due to the soy dust. More than ten truck drivers were also called for negotiations to solve the problem.

Mr Surachet stated that the soy plant belongs to Mr Supin Souakarn who has a permit to cultivate and sell soy. Regarding the agreement with the soy drivers, they would hose water on the road before transporting the soy. They would also reduce speed to solve the dust problem. If the drivers would not comply as agreed, the Satthahip district would would prosecute them.
