Sattahip Jetty Collapses Truck Carrying 18 Tons Salt Falls into the Sea

The Pratheung jetty in Satthahip collapses and a truck carrying 18 tons of salt for fish preservation dives into the sea. The collapse could have been caused by the jetty which was constucted over 100 years ago

Sutthahip, August 1, 2011 (PDN) Pol.Col. Somchai Sunthawanic, Sutthahip Superintendent was informed of the collapse of Pratheung jetty and the loss of a truck carrying salt. The police along with the Sawangrojanathamasathan Foundation Suttahip rushed to the scene.

The Pratheung Jetty which was in broken into two parts had tumbled into the sea. The rear of the Hino truck, registration 08-5527 Samutsongkram, carrying 18 tons of salt for fish preservation was visible. No one was injured as the truck driver could escape from the vehicle.

Mr Chaiya Mongkon, 33, address 27/4 Nakok, Samutsakorn; the truck driver, reported to the police that he drove the truck with a salt load from Samutsakorn to the fishing boat at the jetty. As he was the driving on the jetty he heard a sound like an explosion under the jetty. And the the jetty collaped immediately. The rear of his truck was stuck at foundation of the jetty.

Pol.Col. Somchai Sunthawanic said that the collape of Pratheung jetty might have resulted from wear and tear of the jetty which was constucted more than 100 years ago.
