On 4 Jan 08, Police Colonel, Supapee Boonkrong, Superintendent of Sattahip Police Station, arrested Mr. Satit (Arm) ,18, of 28 / 29 Moo.5, Sattahip, who confessed that he and two other friends were the perpetrators of the violent crime. One of them, Mr. Paskorn Janlon (Oh) 17, of 21 /242 Moo. 2 Sattahip, had been the driver,. the other new friend whom he met recently in an Internet shop remains unidentified, but the police assured Arm that he would be identified and arrested very soon.

Arm told the police that he and his friends were regular customers at “B.T.Net and Games” the Internet service shop in Soi Bon Gai , Moo. 6 Sattahip.

On 3 Jan 08, he had parked his motorbike, (no. Kor-Por-Tor 81 Chonburi) in front of the Internet shop. In the shop.were Pattarapon Sritip, 14, the victim-to-be and some of his friends, playing internet games. When Arm left the shop intending to go home on his motorbike, he found that he couldn’t insert the key in the ignition. Checking the ignition keyhole, he discovered it had been damaged as if someone had attempted to steal his motorbike. Arm was convinced that the suspects were Pattarapon Sritip and his friends, currently in the internet shop, so he persuaded some of his new internet gamer friends to help him seek vengeance.

When Pattarapon Sritip, left the shop alone at 10.30 pm, the posse followed him for about 1 km, stopped him and dragged him into the pickup taking him to the crime scene on Krating Mountain, where they slashed him with a knife and severly beat him up. They then forced Pattarapon to confess to being involved in stealing Arm’s motorbike threatening “If you don’t confess, we will kill you and bury you, here, up on the mountain.”

Arm told police that. Pattarapon, after initial resistance, had eventually confessed that his friend, Mr. Nook, had been the one who had actually tried to steal the motorbike, while he had only kept a lookout. However, Arm was so angry, and suffering from an uncontrollable temper, he had used a long knife to attack Pattarapon. Pattarapon’s left thumb was cut off accidentally because the victim had attempted to grab the knife to prevent Arm injuring him.

The perpetrators will be charged with causing bodily harm.

Note from the Editor

Internet & video games are an obsession of many teenaged boys, especially, who spend inordinate amounts of time on line, or at their home computor playing largely excessively violent games, involving the infliction of gruesome injuries and annihilating scores of “enemies”. This ultra-violent trend is exacerbated by similarly violent TV movies and “soaps” , obviously influenced by Holywood . In the majority of Thai TV soap operas, for example, members of the cast frequently display envy, jealousy & violent intentions to each other, usually involving illicit relationships, sometimes ending in the severe injury or death of one or more of the cast. Inevitably, when young immature boys are exposed to such gratuitous violence, they lose the distinction between reality and fiction.

Teenaged motor cycle gangs are always in the Pattaya news engaged in gang rivalry, theft, vendettas etc. which often result in death. Some of these gang memebers are self-confessed video game addicts and probably still on adrenalin highs / & or Yah Bah go round wreaking mayhem ,encouraged by incessant violent game playing.

In the UK recently, attempts have been made to severly limit the amount of violence that the young are exposed to. This especially in the internet game shops as there is no parental or other controls over the type of games played. Numerous psychological tests have confirmed the negative impact such violent games have upon the young, but common sense dictates that the more exposure to such influence, the less impact normative preventative measures will have; always assuming the young have sufficient, concerned positive influences, like parents or teachers, in the first place.
