Sattahip Cops Catch Teen Motorbike Thieves

Sattahip naval police arrested 4 teen boys caught with stolen parts taken from motorbikes parked on the base. They were caught after a sailor reported the theft of a wheel from his motorbike. The boys had wanted to use the parts to modify their own bikes for street racing.

SATTAHIP – December 13, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; the arrest of four teen boys caught with stolen motorbike parts was announced by Vice Admiral Chainarong Charoenrak, Commissioner of Sattahip naval base; and Special Operation Officers from the Center to Fight against Drugs, Navy branch. The police search and arrest was led by Capt. Khomphan Oopplanon, director of the Operations Division and news, Sattahip naval base.

The four suspects were identified as Mr. First, age 16; Mr. Bas, age 15; Mr. Keng, age 15; and Kai, age 14. Police seized the stolen evidence that included 9 motorbike wheels, 2 rubber gaskets, a carburetor, and an exhaust pipe.

The boys were found and caught after stealing a motorbike wheel in the early morning hours the previous night, said Capt. Khomphan Oopplanon. At 2 a.m., the captain had received a report from the naval security division that a motorbike wheel had been stolen from a Honda Wave 100 S motorbike. The motorbike had been parked at the central dormitory of Sattahip naval base. It belonged to Petty Officer First Class Wanrat Buapradit, age 28.

After receiving the theft report, Capt. Khomphan commanded police officers to close the entrance and exit routes of the naval base. Police forces were then dispersed to look for the thieves. The four boys were caught trying to escape from the naval base with the stolen motorbike parts.

After their arrests, the four teens confessed to the thefts. They said they were going to use the stolen spare parts to modify their motorbikes for stylish beauty and high speed capability, to compete in street races on the main road.
