Samson Sor Siriporn Wins Not Only The Wbc Light-Flyweight Title, But Also Her Freedom

Lady Thai kick boxing champion, Samson Sor Siriporn, or more correctly, Siriporn Taweesuk, fulfilled her desire not only to gain the WBC Light-Flyweight title by resoundingly beating the Japanese contender, Ayako Miyano, at “Bangkok Hilton”, the notorious Klong Prem high-security prison, on Wednesday, thus becoming the first Thai prisoner to win the prestigious WBC title, but, perhaps more importantly, will almost certainly win her freedom

The “Golden Girl” of the prison has justified the prison authority’s faith in her and will therefore be granted early parole in order to defend the WBC title in foreign prize fights, thus gaining remission of the further two years she has remaining on her sentence. Mr. Nathee Chitsawang, the chief of the Thai prisons said Corrections’ Department would request the Justice Ministry to commence the parole process, which is likely to take two months.

Ms. Samson was originally jailed for dealing yah bah, but she has successfully convinced the Department that she is a reformed character. What’s more she will act as an exemplar, especially for inmates convicted of similar crimes to the degree that they too may see the error of their ways and forsake drugs for a more conventional life. Ms Samson will even be employed as trainer at the prison when she gains her freedom.

Ms. Samson’s fellow inmates were allowed to watch the fight on TV and some were even granted the special privilege of being able to go out and cheer her in her victory, including some katoeys who were acting as ring “girls”. Ms. Samson will next meet the winner of the contest between Mexico’s Delia Lopez and Julia Sahin from Germany to defend her WBC title, within the next six months.
