Pattaya 17th June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News] Doctor Phaijit Warachit (Public health Ministry’s Permanent Secretary) revealed that the recently found white transparent substance found on the beach in Lam Chabang was dangerous to health as it contains the highly toxic cyanide. After ingesting, it mixes with the haemoglobin in the red blood corpuscle which causes the body to lack in oxygen resulting in death.

The substance has been sent for further tests at the Chon Buri Department of Health with the results expected in the next ten days. According to the residents of Lam Chabang, Chon Buri, the clear white substance not unlike sea salt was found on the beach after the tide had gone out. The salt had to be dug out and was picked by the local resident in order to sell and use for cooking prior to test results showing signs of cyanide.

Doctor Warachit added that the symptoms after eating this substance include dizziness, feeling weak and giddy. Therefore, anyone who has ingested the substance and shows any of the above signs should make their way to their Doctor or hospital. Every one should beware of the dangers of this salt and not purchase any from the street vendors just because it is cheap. This salt is for use in industry, not cooking.
