S. Korea Navy Exercises with Thai Navy

The Thai Navy joins forces with the U.S. and other countries in the area of the Pacific Ocean and in the annual naval military exercises. South Korea’s sending over 300 men seems to be preparing for any outbreak of war between North and South Korea

Sattahip, 9th February 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]: the Thai Navy joined forces with the United Stated Pacific Comman USPACOM. With troops from 6 different countries participating in the exercise, there were a total of 9,563 men, 2,996 out of whom are Thai and 5,900 American, 38 Singaporean, 54 Japanese, 56 Indonesian and 304 South-Korean and 30 Malaysians. There were 10 more countries as members of MPAT with a total of 30 men, including Australia, France, Italy, the Empire and People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Cambodia, Nepal India,and the Philippines. In this year a long beach is measured which will be the resposibility of the construction and development of the Sattahip Naval Base, to establish this area as a training base ashore. On the 9th the troops took warships, rubber boats, and other boats, as well as aircrafts and weapons, mostly modern weapons to practice and prepare for the big practice on the 10th February 2011. The practice is presided over by Admiral Wallop Kertpon the deputy supreme commander and military commissioner.

During Cobra Gold 2011, South Korea was noticeable with its 304 men as it has been having trouble with North Korea, and seemed to be aiming for combat readiness to practise and strengthen their naval army in case of war.

Admiral Wallop Kertpon said that each country showed strengths in different areas. The Naval troop also seemed to have differing goals they aimed to achieve with the practise. For example, Malaysia wanted practise with a view to combating its pirates; Japan aims at developing civilian rescue but the most noticeable one was South Korea, training hard gaining experience, practise and preparation for war.
