SATTAHIP – April 20, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 3:30 p.m., a report of a bomb found in a tapioca field was received by Pol. Lt. Sinsamut Boonthassana, investigation officer on duty, Sattahip police station.

He coordinated to ask for support from the bomb retrieving unit of the Navy ordnance department, led by Lt. Jr. Grade Panya Changthong, the safety sailor of the bomb disposal unit, and then went to inspect the scene.

The man who found the bomb was identified as Mr. Vorarit Wangborworn, age 32, the village head Moo 11, address 173/11 Tambon Bang Saray, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province.

The bomb had been left on the Tapioca field on Soi Ruambamroong, Moo 6 Tambon Bang Saray, Amphur Sattahip.

Officers arriving at the scene found the bomb approximately 100 meters from the road. It appeared to be a small incendiary bomb, and was weathered and rusty. The pin had been pulled to ignite the bomb, but it had not detonated.

Initially, the officers blocked the area to prevent other people from coming close to the bomb. Then the bomb disposal unit worked to retrieve the bomb without any explosion.

Lt. Junior Grade Panya Changthong said that the bomb was an incendiary-type bomb designed to create fires. If it had worked, it might have caused a fire in the dried grass in the area. However, he will take the retrieved bomb to destroy in a safety field in order to not endanger anyone.

Mr. Vorarit Wangborworn, the village head Moo 11, said that he came to see the area to prepare to cover up the earth. But when he drove the car into the area, he found the bomb on the middle of the entrance road. So he notified the officers to retrieve it.

However, he thought that the bomb came from a group of impetuous teenagers who threw it, but it didn’t work. They probably did not intend to kill or threaten anyone, because the bomb was left in the deserted Tapioca field of more than 20 rais.
