Pattaya – On 4 February 2008, at 2am, Banglamung Inspector, Police Lieutenant Colonel Pongsawat Wongwan, was informed by Miss Supaporn Srijarom (25) that, while she was walking along the beach, near Soi 6 near the Tropicana Hotel, she witnessed two katoeys snatch a necklace from a tourist. The two criminals rode away on their motorbike with the tourist in tow, chasing them. The tourist managed to catch them and was waiting for the police to come to the scene.

Arriving at the scene, police were met by Mr. Iyanov Vladimr (30), a Russian national, and the two errant katoeys, Mr. Teerakorn Rattanatep (26), from 72 Moo 4, Keelek, Maetang, Chiangmai; and Mr. Chalermwoot Mee-Kio (28), from 67 Moo 9, Padad Koontan, Chiangrai. Both of the miscreants were fully decked out with make up on their faces, ladies’ wigs and tight fitting jeans and T-shirts.

The police also retrieved their motorbike, a black and white Honda Wave 125, and a broken necklace, stashed in Mr. Teerakorn’s underpants. In addition, the police found a Christian religious pendant on the road. Police brought everyone, along with the evidence, to the police station.

According to Mr. Vladimr, he was walking along the beach and was approached by Mr. Teerakorn, from behind. Initially, Mr. Teerakorn tried to entice Mr. Vladimr to engage in some sexual activities. However, realizing that this was no lady, Mr. Vladimr declined the offer and attempted to walk away. However, Mr. Teerakorn grabbed the victim’s necklace and ran to the motorbike where Mr. Chalermwoot was waiting with the motor running. The pair rode away. However, Miss Supaporn, who had witnessed the crime, and Mr. Vladimr ran after the pair and managed to catch them.

The two katoeys denied any wrongdoing. However, the police had no doubt of their wrongdoing. A check of their criminal records revealed that they had a record of victimizing tourists with snatch and grabs before. They were charged with snatching and running and will now have to face the full force of the justice system.
