PATTAYA – March 5, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 5 p.m., a report of a foreigner being murdered in a hotel room on soi Buakhao was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Prasit Munsri, investigation officer, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province.

He rushed to inspect the scene with Pol. Lt. Col. Anak Prasongsuk, Inspector, detective police team, the doctor of Banglamung hospital and the rescue officers of Sawangboribultharmmasatharn Pattaya foundation.

The incident occurred in room number 822 in a Soi Buakhao hotel in south Pattaya. Police arrived at the medium-sized hotel and went to the second-floor room, where they found the man’s body.

He was identified as Mr. Komapob Andrei, age 40, nationality Russian. The victim is the manager of an architecture company in Saint Petersburg.

His body was found lying face up on the floor near the door. The victim was shirtless, wearing only black jeans, and his body was stiffening from rigor mortis. Officers estimated he had been dead approximately 8-10 hours. Police found the traces of fighting had occurred, with water bottles scattered around the room. There was blood all over the floor from the victim’s bleeding nose and mouth.

The victim’s neck has the traces of being tied with a belt. The belt was found beside the television, and its belt buckle was torn. The Russian’s left arm was badly bruised, as if he was hit severely by a hard object. There were more bloodstains on the floor and the wall on many spots.

On the top of the bed officers found many condoms. There were also bloodstains on the pillow and blanket, and on the table near the bed. On the dressing table, police also found a take-out meal of grilled pork, sticky rice and coconut.

Police searched the room for the victim’s property left behind, and found a Nokia cellphone, a passport, and a small holder for business cards and credit cards. But police did not find a wallet or any cash.

Police questioned the hotel receptionist, Ms. Sophaporn Phuangthong, age 37. She told police that Mr. Andrei had been staying at the hotel since February 16. He had paid his hotel bill in advance, and was due to check out March 5.

But when the Russian did not come to the front desk to check out, Ms. Sophaporn sent the bellboy to knock his door, to ask whether he will extend his stay. But there was no reply, so the bellboy opened the door to the room and found the Russian’s body.

She told officers that during the time Mr. Andrei stayed in the hotel, he always went out to drink liquor, and came back severely drunk. He always brought a Thai woman to sleep with him in the room. There were also Thai people and foreigners who came to visit him in his room.

After their initial investigation, police assumed Mr. Andrei was murdered in the early morning on the same day his body was found. But they still had no idea who was the murderer. They assumed the victim’s killer must have been similar in size and strength to the victim, because he had died while fighting.

The police initially assumed three causes of the murder: quarrelling, stealing property, or a love affair. The detective police team will inspect the hotel’s CCTV footage and investigate to follow up to arrest the murderer to prosecute further according to the law.
