Russian Shoplifter Nabbed At Central Festival Store

A 56-year-old Russian tourist was caught shoplifting 3,000 THB worth of cosmetics from the Central Festival Pattaya Beach department store. She had hid the items in her handbag and walked out the store. But a store security guard was watching her the whole time, and stopped her outside the store and called police.

PATTAYA – February 11, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; a report of a security guard detaining a foreign tourist for shoplifting was received by Pol. Lt. Col. Songkhram Pun-eam, investigation officer, Pattaya police station. He went to check the scene with a police team.

Notifying the police was the security guard of Central Festival Pattaya Beach department store. At the scene, police found the security guard and the salesclerks from the cosmetics department restraining the suspect, identified as Ms. Tatiana Kavami, age 56, from Russia.

Police searched her black plastic bag and found 7 stolen items of brand name cosmetics, such as the whitening cream and face puff powder. The total worth of the items was about 3,000 THB.

The police restrained and took the defendant to the police station. The salesclerks told police that the Russian woman walked into the shop carrying the black plastic bag. She grabbed a shopping cart and put her bag in it. Then she took items from the store shelves and put in in her black bag, then hurried to walk out from the shop.

But the security guard was watching her behavior. So he followed her and restrained her outside the shop. Then he notified the police, who inspected the bag and found the stolen items.
