Russian Lady Dies After Drunk Friend Crashes Bike

A 27-year-old female Russian tourist was killed in a motorbike crash on Beach Road. She was on a speeding motorcycle driven by a reportedly drunk Russian man. A vehicle entering the road forced him to brake suddenly, causing the bike to overturn and crash. Neither was wearing helmets.

PATTAYA – January 10, 2013, at 1:10 a.m., a report of a motorbike overturning and severely injuring two tourists was received by Pol. Sub. Lt. Jakkrit Jantakham, investigation officer on duty, Pattaya police station. He rushed to the scene with the rescue officers of Sawangboribul Pattaya foundation together with the ambulance of Pattaya Memorial hospital.

The accident occurred on Beach Road in front of the Basaya Beach Hotel and Resort. At the scene, police found the female victim lying on the road, with a head wound that was severely bleeding. Rescue officers performed emergency CPR to keep her heart pumping, and rushed her to Pattaya Memorial hospital.

The victim could not survive her injuries, and she died on the way to the hospital. She was identified as Ms. Julia Zerkino, age 27, nationality Russian.

The other victim was identified as Mr. Nicolai Perfilyer, age 38, nationality Russian. He was severely injured and lying down on the sidewalk by the beach.

There were scratches on his body and collarbone, so officers performed first aid before sending him to Pattaya Memorial hospital. He appeared heavily intoxicated, according to police.

Nearby was the fallen motorbike, a blue Suzuki, big-bike model RGSX 750 cc, which got damaged in the crash. A lot of local people and tourists were standing around looking at the carnage.

Witnesses told police that Ms. Julia was a passenger on the Suzuki motorbike, which Mr. Nicolai was driving at a high speed on Beach Road. Neither was wearing a helmet.

When they neared an intersection, a car pulled into Beach Road in front of them, forcing Mr. Nicolai to brake suddenly. But he lost control of his motorcycle, which overturned and slid to the sidewalk. The impact flung the Russians off the bike.

The head and body of Ms. Julia hit the road violently, while Mr. Nicolai was thrown to the sidewalk.

Police made notes and inspected the scene in detail. They will coordinate to inform the Russian embassy of the accident.
