A shop manager reported to a shopping mall security to detain a Russian customer who attempted to use counterfeit USD bank notes to buy goods from her shop. Police was notified and also found six bank notes of 100 USD in his body were counterfeit. Russian guy claimed that he brought the money from his country without knowing it was counterfeit. Police had detained the Russian guy and would search his room for more evidence.

On 28 November 2007, at 00.30AM, Pol.Col.Noppadol Wongnom, Pattaya superintendent, was notified that a foreigner attempted to use counterfeit bank notes to buy goods from a fashion shop, located on the first floor of Royal Garden Plaza shopping center, Pattaya beach road.
Arriving at the scene, a shopping mall security had detained Mr. Egorov Denis (29), Russian citizen. Police searched his body and found six counterfeit bank notes of 100 USD and 2,880 Thai baht which was confiscated. Mr. Denis claimed that he had brought the money with him from his country without knowing that it was counterfeit. He said he also have the other amount in his room at Best hotel. However, police did not buy his words and had detained him.

Miss Narin Rakchart (35), a shop manager, told police that Mr. Denis had chosen a shirt and a jeans from the shop. The two items cost 3,720 baht. Mr. Denis paid in two bank notes of 100 US dollar but the color and texture of the notes was not the same as what she had experienced before. Miss Narin then asked Kasikorn bank in the mall to examine and found out that it was counterfeit. She immediately informed shopping mall security to detain the Russian guy and also notified the police.

Initially, police had charged Mr. Denis of possessing counterfeit money illegally. He was taken back to his room at Best hotel in order to search for more bank notes, he claimed, that he had brought from his country. After that police would send Mr. Denis to police investigator for further investigation.
