Russian Criminal Caught Using Fake ATM Card to Buy 25,000 THB Gold Necklace

A Russian was arrested using a fake ATM card to purchase a golden necklace. Police later found many bogus ATM cards.The suspect received the fake cards from his British friend.

Pattaya, August 2, 2011 [Pattaya Daily News]; Pol.Capt. Prajakpong Suriya, Chonburi Police was informed by a Siam Commercial Bank clerk that a foreigner was using a fake ATM card to purchase gold at Tongsuk gold shop on Pattaya 2 Road in Pattaya Klang. The Chonburi Interpol Police rushed to scene.

At the gold the staff informed the police to arrest Mr Alexander Gerasimenko, 27, a Russian national, for using a fake ATM card to purchase a golden necklace. The police also found five more fake ATM cards in his wallet.

The staff reported to the police that the suspect came to purchase a golden necklace, valued 24,668 THB and paid with a credit card. The clerk could not swipe the card so he contacted the Siam Commercial Bank to verify the card and found that the ATM card was fake or stolen.

The police detained the suspect and searched his residence at Pattaya Garden on Pattaya-Nakleu Road and found the suspect’s girlfriend Mrs Evgeniya Oshcheva, 24, a Russian national in the room. Six more fake ATM card were found.

The police cooperated with the Siam Commercial Bank to verify the information on the cards. The officer found that the cards contained the information of the real ATM cards belonging to cardholders in USA. The suspect confessed that he recieved the fake ATM cards from his English friend, named David. Mr Gerasimenko was detained and charged for using fake ATM cards.

As for the suspect’s friend David, he managed to escape. The police is searching for him.
