Russian Businessman’s Body Found in Phuket

The police in Phuket have found a human skeleton that had been burnt in a forest. The police believe it is the remains of a Russian businessman who was kidnapped and held to ransom by 3 Russian kidnappers.

PHUKET – From the case of the disappearance of Mr. Alexi Slabinskiy, aged 39, a financial businessman and Miss Yana Starizeus, aged 28, his girlfriend who have been in Phuket since April 2013. On March 3, 2014 both of them had contacted their relatives in Russia and asked to borrow $100,000 U.S. dollars (approximately 4.5 million THB) to solve some problems.

Later on March 13, 2014 Miss Yana’s elder sister informed that Miss Yana called her again which Miss Yana spoke very softly (faintly) as if she was afraid that someone might hear her talking and told her elder sister that she had been kidnapped. She also said that if she was not found soon she will be killed, then she hung up and her elder sister could not contact her anymore. Miss Yana’s relatives were afraid so they flew to Phuket in order to notify the Thai officials and Russian Embassy in Thailand to look for the kidnapped couple.

On March 15, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News] the police found Miss Yana in a hotel in Tambon Cherng Thaley, Amphur Tha Larng, Phuket province, she was severely injured with many wounds all over her body so the officers sent her to Bangkok-Phuket hospital but her husband was missing.
On March 29, 2014, the detective police team of Phuket Provincial police station, Cherng Thaley police station, Kamala police station, the border patrol police of Amphur Thoong Song and the police dog unit had inspected the Kok Tanod forest, Soi 3 Tambon Cherng Thaley, Amphur Tha Larng, found a human skeleton that was burnt on a tyre.

Upon inspecting the officers found that the corpse was a male foreigner and he had been murdered before being set on fire. The officers collected all the evidence and sent the body for an autopsy and to test for DNA to see whether it is Mr Alexi, his relatives were certain that it was the skeleton of Mr Alexi.

Pol.Col. Aroon Klaewwathee (Deputy Commander of Phuket provincial police station) said that on March 30, 2014 the officers will ask the court to issue arrest warrants for the 3 suspicious defendants that might be involved with the disappearing of Mr. Alexi which consists of 3 Russian suspects with the allegations of detaining and extorting money. Initially, the officers assumed that the 3 Russian defendants might have already fled the country.
