Rayong – July 27, 2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; Journalists were informed that several helicopters and marine ships were sent out to clean or block oil spills that were leaked in the early hours of July 27. Emergency response authorities immediately asked for help from the Royal Thai Navy in order to block oil slicks that were threatening the coast of Rayong, a major tourist beach.

The oil slicks location is about 20 kilometres southeast of the Map Ta Phut industrial estate, it was also reported that an estimated 50,000 litres of oil leaked from a pipeline that is operated by PTT Global Chemical Plc. Marine helicopters and ships used solutions to disintegrate the oil in hopes to stop the oil from reaching major tourist beaches in Rayong province.

The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources emphasized that the oil must be cleaned as soon as possible, as it will affect the life of sea creatures and other coral reefs in the area. Fishermen were also advised to stay away from the area as it is not safe to fish yet.
