Royal Escape To Hua Hin

It was in 2005 that the legendary five-time Major winner and creator of the Royal Trophy Seve Ballesteros had the great honor of committing and dedicating the staging of the inaugural five editions of the Royal Trophy to the Kingdom of Thailand. Since that time four editions of the Championship have been very successfully hosted in Thailand.

On 7 – 9 January 2011, the fifth edition of the Royal Trophy golf championship, played between the continents of Europe and Asia, will take place at the magnificent Black Mountain Golf Club in the coastal city of Hua Hin in the Kingdom of Thailand. The prestigious and highly competitive team match-play continental Championship will once again feature eight players and a captain representing the Asian and European continents respectively in a series of sixteen foursomes, four-ball and singles matches.

Located in the outskirts of the old-charmed coastal resort town of Hua Hin, Black Mountain Golf Club’s ultra-luxurious championship golf course is set amongst huge valleys surrounded by jutting mountains ranges. Voted one of the top three championship golf courses in all of Asia Pacific, the Black Mountain golf course layout promises to provide a serious challenge to the European and Asian golf elite.

“Black Mountain is extremely pleased to be the Host Venue for the fifth edition of the Royal Trophy. We are looking forward to hosting the European and Asian Team Captains and players as well as all of the spectators attending the Royal Trophy. We are truly honored and will strive to make the Championship a great experience for all. We are fully committed to make the fifth edition of the Royal Trophy the most successful to date,” said Mr. Harald Elisson, General Manager of Black Mountain Golf Club.

Set to take place in picturesque Hua Hin, the Royal Trophy presents a very exciting and convenient opportunity for travel offering a ‘dream weekend’ for golf aficionados. Hua Hin is an extremely popular weekend destination for both the international and domestic community; a coastal town high on traditional Thai charm which was discovered in the early 1920s by King Rama VII as an ideal getaway from the sultry metropolis of Bangkok. The tranquil fishing village then evolved into the ‘Royal resort town’ and consequently became very popular among Siam’s nobility and upper-class. Today, Hua Hin has grown into one of Asia’s very best ‘golf hubs’ with seven world-class championship golf courses – all located within forty five minutes of each other.

The Royal Trophy offers an excellent opportunity for golf fans to support Asia or Europe respectively while enjoying the sumptuous facilities of Black Mountain Golf Club, be accommodated at the luxurious resorts and charming boutique hotels available in Hua Hin, taste some of the best and freshest sea food available anywhere in the world – served right at the beach front and access some of the world’s best spas. In essence, experience a truly restful getaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.

For the serious golf fan, there is also the opportunity to be accommodated at the same resort property where the superstar golfers will be staying – including the Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa which will host the Asian Team and the Sofitel Centara Grand Resort & Villas, the European Team’s home while in Hua Hin.

“Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa is delighted to be part of the fifth edition of the Royal Trophy. We will proudly host the Asian Team with superstar Ryo Ishikawa from Japan and are confident that Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa will provide great benefits to the spectators traveling to Hua Hin,” said Mr. Boris Blobel, General Manager of Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa.

“Sofitel Centara Grand Resort & Villas Hua Hin is delighted to be a Preferred Resort of the prestigious fifth edition of the Royal Trophy.  We consider it a great honour to be hosting members of the all-star European team at our iconic beachfront resort.  It is also a pleasure to work closely with all Co-Organizers including the Sports Authority of Thailand, Tourism Authority of Thailand and Entertainment and Sports in helping to bring sports fans to the royal town of Hua Hin,” stated Mr. Jacques Mury, General Manager of Sofitel Centara Grand Resort & Villas Hua Hin.

We encourage golf fans living in Thailand and visitors from around the world to take the opportunity to enjoy a very relaxing weekend combining the great cuisine available, access to some of the world’s best spas, the fantastic beach front of Hua Hin and the luxurious amenities available at these great resorts. And then there is the golf – Europe competing against Asia with Players of the stature of Colin Montgomerie, Ryo Ishikawa, Henrik Stenson, Matteo Manassero and Thailand’s own Thongchai Jaidee on the golf course. This is a very rare opportunity,” said a Royal Trophy spokesperson.
