TRAD – June 28, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News];- at 15.00 pm. A foreign woman had been knocked over by the waves as she was swimming in front of the Nature Beach Resort, Koh Chang island, Trad. Her friends shouted for help and the rescue team was contacted.

Upon questioning her she revealed that she and her friends went swimming in the sea during strong winds and rough conditions even though there was a red flag flying to warn swimmers not to swim. She then swam out to sea and was far from the shore when she was engulfed by a large wave and got into difficulty. She then required assistance from the rescue team who rescued her and sent her to the Koh Chang international clinic for treatment.

Mr.Peera Iamsunthorn-district chief of Koh Chang- said that this wasn’t the first accident on the island and there had been 2 similar accidents already during June. The first incident happened on June 16th at Ban Hatsaikao and the rescue team saved the tourist, the second incident happened on June 24th at the same place but unfortunately the tourist drowned.

Koh Chang officers had warned the beach hotels to warn their guests not to swim and to put out red flags to warn people of the dangerous conditions. However some tourists had ignored the warnings and still went swimming. Therefore the officers need to intensify solving this problem- said Mr.Peera.
