Pattaya Daily News reporters had inspected the security of SRT (State Railway of Thailand), and they found the gate barrier at Wat Thamsamakkhee temple was out of service. As a result of this people needed to be very careful when crossing the railway line because there was only a very small yellow warning light.

There are 4 places which had manual gate barriers which were Nong Gate Yai conjunction, Nong Prue conjunction, Soi Tan Mun conjunction and Soi Chaiyapruek conjunction. The railway personel needed to control the warning barriers by themselves when they are notified that a train is approximately 800 metres away from the crossing. Also there is a siren and yellow lights to warn people.

There are 5 locations which had installed track gate barriers in Pattaya which were 104 kilometers conjunction, Wat Thamsamakkee temple conjunction, Khao Talo conjunction, behind Muang Pattaya 7 school conjunction and Nong Krabok conjunction. This kind of gate barrier didn’t need a controller because they are controlled automatically.

Mr.Manus Lekkhuna- Pattaya railway man- revealed that they had installed CCTV at the railway crossings in order to monitor traffic congestion and the situation while the train was passing. Also they had monitored how the gate barriers work. However some small railway crossing hadn’t installed gate barriers because there was insufficient budget and personnel. They had just installed notices to warn the people about the railway crossing. These notices warn people before they reach the railway at 100 metre intervals 300 meters, 200 meters 100 meters and 5 meters. Also they had installed a “STOP” sign.

According to the traffic law, drivers or riders who approach the rail crossing should stop 5 metres away from the rail line and check to see if a train is coming or not before they cross. The transgressors will be fined 500 baht if they don’t obey the strict rules.
