Pattaya, the 5th of May 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: Pattaya City Mayor, Ittiphon Khunpluem opened the new training and development project, tentatively titled the ‘Tourist Assistant Project’ at the Rim Bung Hall at the Nongnuch Gardens in Pattaya. Following the Mayor’s opening speech, the Pattaya Tourism Police Chief Inspector, Major Arun Phromphan welcomed the gathering of Tourism Police and Volunteers to the meeting. Once formalities were taken care of, Maj. Phromphan gave a brief outline of the projects main focus points, which are as follows:

– Established tourism police and police volunteers to become more actively involved with the training of new recruits.
– Both groups to become more widely involved with assisting the Royal Thai police with their dealings in tourist related matters, where the language barrier often       presents a problem.
– Maintain an increased presence in the main tourist areas of the city to ensure the safety and to discourage crime.

Maj Phromphan revealed that the conjoined efforts in establishing the ‘Tourist Assistant Project’ between various private organisations, local authorities, government officials and the Ministry of Tourism and Sport was a positive sign that all areas of the Thai administration system are focused on improving Pattaya’s reputation by reducing crime and presenting a safe, fun and friendly environment for tourists to come and enjoy.

The Pattaya City Mayor also praised the creation of the project, stating that it will help bring together the two volunteer police forces and give them a greater influence on the battle to maintain Pattaya as a viable and safe seaside holiday resort.
