Anti-government Red Shirt protesters on Monday converged on Government House, demanding the resignation of the Minister to Prime Minister's Office for his alleged meddling by blocking the group's community radio stations.

The red-clad protesters, led by the Red Shirt community radio club, gathered at Phitsanulok Road outside Government House at noon, reading a group position statement accusing the government of media intervention in closing three community radio networks; 95.25, 101.25 and 96.35 MHz.

The demonstrators urged Satit Wongnongtoey, who supervises state media, to stop threatening community radio and the Red Shirt supporters. They said that Mr Satit should open his mind and listen to public criticism. They also urged the minister to resign to express his responsibility in the matter.

Government House’s entrances, Gates 1 and 4, have been closed for safety reasons, while Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva left his office at 1pm to attend a funeral in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat.

National security head Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban also left Government House few minutes before the protesters arrived, but Mr Satit was reportedly working inside as usual. (TNA)
