March 9, [Pattaya Daily News]: One of the ways of entering and staying in a foreign country is to obtain a student visa, this applies as much in Thailand as the US and for 51 Thai students in Florida, not abiding by the strict attendance regulations has rendered them liable to deportation, according to the TNA.

Thani Thongphakdi, Deputy Director General of the Foreign Affairs Ministry Information Department, announced that the group of 51 had been detained by the authorities and their school, Florida Language School, has been shut for not ensuring that the students abided by the requirements to attend classes as full time students, regularly.

The students in question have been detained without bail and must appear individually in front of an immigration judge for violating US immigration law. They have the option of returning home voluntarily or to remain in the US to fight against deportation. There were also a number of other Thai students who weren’t detained, but who had also contravened immigration laws, they were merely advised to return to Thailand.

Mr Thani further advised any Thai students who were contemplating studying abroad that they should choose their schools well and abide by the student visa laws or face the same predicament.
