Separate ?homes? will be constructed for boys and girls at a total cost of THB18 million, donated by Raimon Land and other suppliers who work with the developer. These include contractors Bouygues Thai and NET, architects Graham Lamb/Orbit Design Studio and Stephen J. Leach, and engineers Meinhardt and EEC Lincoln Scott.

The aim of the project is to create a safe and non-abusive environment for the children and provide them with an as near as possible to normal upbringing considering their circumstances. The buildings will have a capacity to house 50 children each, with ages ranging from five to late teens.

Raimon Land Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Cornick, said: ?Despite the global credit issues that are affecting our industry, we remain firmly committed to our corporate social responsibility programme and company vision of developing a better environment.

The Mercy Centre is a great example of how to assist and improve the lives of those less fortunate and we are proud to be able to support their efforts through our own funding and by encouraging our partners to also make a contribution to this worthy project.?

Each home will have individual bed and storage facilities for the children, as well as games, kitchen and laundry facilities, a homework area, an on-site guardian and a garden on the second floor to grow herbs and vegetables.

All artwork for the fittings will be created in conjunction with the children themselves so that the interiors will have a personalised and familiar feel.

The home for boys is scheduled for completion by March 2009, while a site is being finalised for the girls.
