SATTAHIP – July 26, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 5 p.m., a Sattahip reporter received a call from Petty Officer 1st Class Tawatchai Pengsai, 38, address 90/156 Moo 6 Aekthani village, Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province, that several dogs he had been feeding had been poisoned and died around his house.

The reporter rushed to the scene. Arriving at the village, he saw people from the neighborhood gazing at the corpses with pity. Six dogs had been killed: three males and three females. One of the females had just given birth to seven puppies two weeks ago. The puppies were barking and crying to call their mother.

The dogs had eaten poison that mixed with pieces of chicken and ran into the grass forest and died. They were found in a drainage ditch behind Mr. Tawatchai’s house near Tapioca field. The angry neighbors cursed at the cruel people that poisoned the dogs.

Mr. Tawatchai’s wife, Mrs. Ratchadaporn Intarasena, 34, was crying as she described trying to help the poisoned dogs shortly before they died. They were convulsing, crying loudly and saliva filled their mouths, she said. But because she was sick, she returned to her house. She later tried to feed them boiled eggs, but was too late and the animals had died. She felt shock and was sitting and crying next to the animals.

Mr. Tawatchai said he is sad because the dogs didn’t make trouble to anyone. He gave them food but didn’t bring them into the house. His wife and other neighbors also cared for the dogs.

They had been good watchdogs, Mrs. Ratchadaporn said. In the last three years, thieves would break in her house next to the forest. But after she started feeding the dogs, the burglaries stopped. She suspects that local residents in the area may have poisoned the dogs.
