Pattaya, the 22nd of June 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 6:00am on Tuesday, Captain Narongdet Tanaphoonsin (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified by a Miss Uthaiwan Phusa [19] of a citizen’s arrest having taken place at the Eurasia Serviced Residence in Soi Yensabai, South Pattaya.

Miss Phusa explained to investigating officers that she had been robbed of Bt50,000 from her ATM by the detained suspect Miss Phatchramai Wisetnork [30]. Allegedly Miss Wisetnork was a former friend who had stolen the victims Kasikorn ATM card in January of 2010 before proceeding to withdraw Bt50,000 baht from the account, having known the pin number.

On the date of the incident, the 6th of January 2010, Miss Phusa reported the incident to the Pattaya Police and the Kasikorn Bank, finding out that the offender was her friend. Accordingly the woman had withdrawn the money in five separate transactions at five different ATM machines around Pattaya and had been identified via the CCTV cameras positioned at each location.

Miss Phusa explained that she and her sister had begun an investigation in an attempt to locate the offender as police investigations had been ongoing without progress for several weeks. With all attempts to track down Miss Wisetnork failing, the victim was informed, by an unnamed source, that the offender had been seen working at a bar in Walking Street and that she was staying at the Eurasia Serviced Residence in South Pattaya.

Proceeding to the scene with her sister Miss Phusa waited in the hotel’s lobby approaching and detaining her former friend before informing local police. Having detained the offender, the victim provided investigating officers with photographs of the CCTV footage from the Kasikorn ATM machines before outlining the case against Miss Wisetnork. The offender was promptly arrested and taken to the Pattaya Police Station for interrogation.

Faced with overwhelming evidence against her, Miss Wisetnork admitted to the crime stating that she had withdrawn the money and spent it trying to impress her new boyfriend. Miss Wisetnork also revealed that she had been staying in the area, working in a bar on Walking Street, since the date of offence whilst her boyfriend had left her once the stolen money ran out.

The offender has now been remanded in police custody awaiting further judicial proceedings to commence.
