Family members joined the PM in a low profile celebration that included giving alms to nine Buddhist monks who were invited to partake in the festivities. The monks chanted prayers intended to provide merit for the PM’s birthday.

Thaksin did not conduct a blessing ceremony inside his house as in the past, and instead held prayers in a simple setting in his garden.

In the absence of well-wishers, usually comprising top Thai Rak Thai (TRT) executives, leaders of other parties, military top brass and celebrities, the atmosphere at Thaksin’s Charansanitwong 39 home was quiet.

Reporters hounded the PM with questions regarding the current political situation facing Thailand as well as his government. He had no time to answer any of these questions on this day, he had other plans. The PM left his home to preside over the inauguration of the World Rubber Summit held at the Impact Trade and Exhibition Center in Muang Thong Thani on the outskirts of Bangkok.

Mr. Thaksin, the leader of the Thai Rak Thai (TRT) party, is preparing for the upcoming election set for October 15. The other Thai political parties are following suit in preparing for the election.

It should be smooth sailing for this and future elections after Tuesday’s Criminal Court ruling of four-year jail terms for the former three election commissioners. The ruling ender their legitimacy and now the selection process can begin to find new commissioners to run the country’s elections.

Some were worried that with the arrests of the commissioners, that the election would be postponed. The PM assures that a new fully constituted panel of five election commissioners will be selected in the next month, well before the election is set to take place.
