Pattaya, the 17th of October 2010 [Pattaya Daily News]: At approximately 10:30pm on Sunday, Lieutenant Colonel Chatchai Srisuwan (Pattaya Police Investigator) was notified of an attempted rape and robbery conducted by a man thought to be impersonating a police officer in South Pattaya.

According to a police statement, Mr. Narainet Juanrangsin [20] and his pregnant cousin Ms. Buathong Phumset [18] reported to police claiming to have been deceived by a man impersonating a police officer in front of Soi Mitchim, South Pattaya Road. The pair explained that they had been stopped by the man and interrogated over the ownership of their motorbike, which he subsequently claimed was stolen.

Ms. Phumset explained to Lt Col. Srisuwan that the man had asked her to accompany him to a nearby police box on his motorbike (a blue Honda Sonic) in order to sort the matter out and file a report on the incident. Her cousin, Mr. Juanrangsin, remained with the pair’s motorbike at the scene.

In her statement, Ms. Phumset explains that the deceitful man alleged to be taking her to a police box on Soi Phettrakun, but instead drove to a remote location along Soi Khaotalo, near the railway tracks. The man then attempted to rape her in the secluded bushland, but she managed to violently resist the attack, before he stole her handbag and fled on the motorbike.

Ms. Phumset sought help from local residents before she and her cousin both went to inform police of the incident.

At present both Ms. Phumset and her cousin have checked police photo records for the offender without success, while a composite sketch of the man has been drawn up to assist officers in their investigations.
