NAKORNRATCHASIMA – December 18, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; a Chaiyaphum woman was arrested for attempted robbery of a gold shop by the Protecting and Subduing police team of Muang Nakornratchasima province.

The incident occurred at the Chokanan gold shop at 700/5 Jomphol road, Amphur Muang, Nakornratchasima province. The suspect was identified as Ms. Wannisa Nafia, age 28. She is accused of using a knife and fake gun trying to rob the store, while a customer was inside buying gold jewelry at the time.

The customer who disarmed and apprehended the suspect was identified as Mr. Manus Thornpho, age 38, of Nakornratchasima province. Mr. Manus told police that he was in Chokanan gold shop to buy gold. Then someone walked behind him and used a knife to tickle at his neck and commanded him not to resist.

Then the robber threw her bag to the owner of the gold shop to put the gold into her bag. So Mr. Manus used that time to shake off the robber’s hand until the knife fell from her grasp. They began fighting until the robber ran out of the shop to get on her motorbike parked in front.

The robber took out a gun to scare off Mr. Manus. But he saw that it was the fake gun, so he ran after the robber and pulled at her until she fell down off the bike. Then he shouted to nearby bystanders to assist to capture her.

After her arrest, Ms. Wannisa confessed to robbing the shop and the reason why she did it. She said she was unemployed, and did not have the money to pay for her rental room for several months. When she got pregnant two months ago, her boyfriend deserted her. So she had no solution to pay the rent, until she made the plan to rob the gold shop.

She bought plastic tape to attach to her motorbike license plate to conceal its license number. Then she bought a fake gun from the toy shop. She did not think she would get arrested when she planned the robbery.

The police restrained Ms. Wannisa to send to investigation officer of Muang Nakornratchasima police station. She is charged with robbing other people’s property by using a weapon.
