PATTAYA – May 13,2013 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 1:30 a.m., police made a sweep of Walking Street to arrest illegal hawkers on the street who pestered tourists to watch obscene shows in the nightclubs. The guides were showing sexually graphic posters, pictures and brochures of the obscene shows to passersby.

The sweep was conducted by Pol. Capt. Netithorn Rattanasuchanan, Deputy Inspector, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province, along with the police team.

Police also randomly inspected groups of suspicious people who might have consumed drugs, and also the women selling sexual services along Pattaya beach.

The police were responding to complaints from the tourists that the groups of illegal guides working as the staff of the entertainment centers continually tried to persuade customers to see the obscene shows, and always made trouble and annoyed the tourists by pestering them on Walking Street.

So the Pattaya police officers went to strictly inspect the hawkers, and arrested 7 Thai male illegal guides. Officers seized their brochures and color photocopied pictures of the obscene shows involving Thai and foreign women in the entertainment centers, which seem to be operating furtively and violating public obscenity standards.

Meanwhile, another police team arrested assorted drug addicts and prostitutes along Pattaya beach. More than 30 defendants were restrained and taken to Pattaya police station to investigate.

All of 7 illegal hawkers confessed that they had been hired by the entertainment centers on Walking Street to work as illegal guides. They carried the brochures and pictures of the obscene shows, to call out to, or try to persuade the pedestrians, mostly foreign male tourists, to watch the obscene shows in the entertainment centers.

Initially, the police charged all 7 defendants in an accusation of “for the objective of merchandising or distributing or showing off to the people, of doing, producing, possessing or importing into the kingdom, promoting or exporting out of the kingdom, taking or distributing of documents, portraits, pictures, printing documents, advertising pictures, symbols, photographs, movies, voice recorder, and picture recorder of any other things that are obscene.”

As for the detained drug addicts, the police made daily notes for evidence, and then restrained all of them to the investigation officer to prosecute according to the law. For the prostitutes caught on Beach Road, the police fined them before releasing all of them.
