Police Silence Sattahip Karaoke Shop With Laotian Girls

The owner of a Sattahip forklift business was charged by police with opening a karaoke shop illegally and hiring Laotian women with no work permits. Police detained six women working at the shop. Two were minors under age 18.

SATTAHIP – August 4, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 12:30 a.m., police forces were mobilized by Pol. Maj. Gen. Kosol Puavet, Deputy Commissioner, Section 2; Pol. Maj. Gen. Kittipong Ngaomook, Commander; and Pol. Lt. Col. Rattha Prathumkaew, Deputy Commander, Nakornnaiyok province; to investigate a complaint that a Sattahip Karaoke shop had opened without a legal permit and employed Laotian girls illegally.

Police arrived at the Full Moon karaoke shop at Thongthip market community, Baan Taotarn, Moo 4 Tambon Sattahip, Amphur Sattahip, Chonburi province. The karaoke shop was in the last room of a 3-story building with no address number.

Working in the shop were six “good looking” girls serving customers who came to the shop. Police inspected their identity cards and found that all of them were Laotians working without permission in Thailand. The women ranged in age between 15- to 24-years-old, and two were minors under age 18.

Police recorded their histories and arrests, and sent them to the investigation officer at Sattahip police station to prosecute with charges of being foreigners working without permission.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Kosol Puavet said that the owner of the shop, Mr. Ritthirong or “Ord Pattanarangka,” age 24, will also be prosecuted. Mr. Ritthirong also operates a forklift business.

He was taken to the Sattahip police station, and charged with opening an entertainment center without permission, and hiring employees under 18 for the purpose of compelling, persuading, supporting or engaging to seek benefit from the children.
