Police Raid Casino In Pattaya Condominium

Pattaya police have raided an illegal casino that was being operated at the back of a jewellery and souvenir shop. The casino was open to Thai and foreign gamblers. A total of 26 Thai and Burmese gamblers were arrested.

PATTAYA – January 21, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 1.30 a.m. Pol. Lt. Col. Kiettisak Sathong-oy (Deputy Superintendent of Pattaya city police station), Pol. Lt. Col. Chitdecha Songhong (Inspector) mobilised forces of more than 20 police and plainclothes police officers to raid a jewellery and souvenirs shop in Kao Karat condominium, Soi Arunothai 2, Moo 12 Tambon Nong Prue, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province after the officers were informed that an illegal casino was being run there.

From inspecting the scene a shop was being run as a jewellery and souvenirs shop but at the back was a gambling den which was concealed behind 2 steel security doors. Once inside the police arrested a total of 26 gamblers and casino employees which consisted of 5 Thai male and female gamblers and 21 Burmese employees. The officers also found evidence of gambling which consisted of 11 chips, casino table, CCTV and 8 computer sets so they seizsed all of them for evidence. The officers detained all of the gamblers, the Burmese employees and Mr. Chaiya Sae-leaw, aged 51, Surin resident, who was the caretaker of this casino, to prosecute according to the law and charged Mr. Chaiya in the allegations of running an illegal gambling den without permission and providing shelter for illegal aliens.
Pol. Lt. Col. Kiettisak Sathong-oy (Deputy Superintendent of Pattaya city police station) revealed that gambling den was opened for Chinese tour groups that liked to gamble and was being operated as a jewellery and souvenirs shop to conceal it from police..

The journalists reported additionally that while the officers were raiding the den employees and gamblers were running away to escape from the police who were quickly arrested. An elderly woman who was arrested denied that she was gambling and shouted at the officers then threw a can of beer at them, but when the police checked the CCTV it had caught images of her sat waiting to gamble.
