Police Show Results of Renewed Crackdown

Chon-Buri police from Region 2 (Pattaya) have recently presented the successful results of December’s crackdown on criminal activities to the media.

Pattaya, the 28th of December 2009 [Pattaya Daily News]: On Monday evening, Lieutenant General Kriengsak Suriyo (Pattaya Police Commissioner), Major General Thanet Pinmuanggnarm (Chon-Buri Police Commissioner) and Mayor Itthiphol Khunpluem along with a host of other officers and senior officials came together to announce the success of the recent crackdown on crime over the Chon-Buri region, notably in Pattaya City.

It was revealed that as a result of intense police investigations, an immense amount of drugs and arms have been confiscated from the streets of Pattaya. This included; over 34,400 pills of Yabba, 90 grams of Ya-Ice, 100 pills of Ya-E, over 1500 grams of cocaine, 200 kilograms of marijuana and a host of other drugs. Weapons that were confiscated included a variety of long barrel shotguns and rifles along with 30 hand guns or varying calibre. Over 5,500 criminals were brought to justice.

Police Lieutenant General Kriengsak Suriyo explained that the Royal Thai Police Command had issued instructions for all regions to crackdown on crime leading up to the New Year celebrations for 2010. The focus of the renewed crackdown was focused on drugs, mafia activity and serious crime.

Mayor Khunpluem stated that the success of the operation will help portray a positive image for the city of Pattaya to the visiting foreign tourists. The presence of extra police over the Christmas and New Year period showed that Pattaya City was ready to welcome the world to celebrate the festive season in safety and security. The law enforcement team over the New Year holiday will number over 10,000 and include; Pattaya and Chon-Buri officers, police volunteers, tourist police and various medical teams from the hospitals in the area.
