SATTAHIP – August 2, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 11 a.m., an arrest of two men accused of stealing a pickup truck was announced by Pol. Col. Panthana Nuchanart, Pattaya police station, Chonburi province; together with Pol. Lt. Col. Kierttisak Sathongoy, Deputy Superintendent; Pol. Lt. Col. Anak Prasongsuk, Inspector; Pol. Capt. Netivit Thanasitnitikul, Deputy Inspector; and the detective police team.

The two brothers are suspected of belonging to a gang of auto thieves. The suspects are Mr. Chanin or “Bank Meesabai,” age 22, address 155/3 Moo 2 Tambon Klaeng, Amphur Muang, Rayong province; and Mr. Chartchai or “Chop Meesabai,” age 21, address 94 Moo 4 Tambon Baan Laeng, Amphur Muang, Rayong province.

Police recovered the stolen pickup, a black Isuzu Dmax, license number THOR KHOR-6654 Bangkok. The truck had been modified to drive at high speeds.

Pol. Col. Panthana Nuchanart, said that the truck was first reported stolen five months ago. On February 19, Ms. Nok Saengurai notified police that her pickup truck had been stolen from the parking lot of Wat Chaimongkol in south Pattaya.

The detective police team investigating the case knew that on the previous day of the theft, a suspicious young man who looked like a drug addict had been seen walking around the truck. An alert was given to police in the nearby areas to look for the vehicle and the suspected thief.

On July 31, people in the area of the Pae police station in Rayong province saw the two men in the modified Isuzu pickup truck, and became suspicious that it was the stolen pickup truck.

They told the police, who inspected the truck. After discovering the truck was stolen, police arrested Mr. Chanin and Mr. Chartchai. However, the brothers claimed that they didn’t steal the pickup truck and had borrowed it from their friend.

Police were skeptical because of the pair’s behavior. Later evidence revealed the two men were part of a big gang of pickup truck thieves in Pattaya and the surrounding areas. The stolen trucks were later sold to other people or modified for high-speed driving.

A background check of the suspects also revealed that they had many friends in the auto theft gang, as well as a history of criminal offenses including possessing guns illegally. After the initial investigation, police charged the two suspects with jointly “stealing property or receiving stolen property.”

Police will continue to investigate the pair in order to arrest all the other auto-theft gang members and related persons to prosecute further according to the law.
