Police Collar Pattaya Loan Collector

Police arrested a 20-year-old man who admitted being a collector for a South Pattaya loan shark. The loan shark is accused of charging excessive interest rates and using violence to collect money. The man said their interest rate was 20 percent and he denied hurting any customers.

PATTAYA – August 7, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 12:10 a.m., an arrest was announced of a loan shark collector by Pol. Lt. Capt. Ittipol Thongnark, vice investigation inspector of police 2; and the investigation police forces.

The suspect was identified as Mr.Saharat Petchnil, 20, living at the house number 187, moo 3, Borploy, Borai, Trad.

Police seized evidence that included a list with 100 customer names, $17,540 in cash, loan contracts, a cell phone and a motorcycle.

The investigation began when Pol. Lt. Capt. Ittipol Thongnark was commanded by Pol. Col. Sutat Pumpanmuang, director of investigation center of police 2, to investigate and track a loan shark gang that charged excessively high interest rates and sometimes used violence to collect their money.

The police officer found Mr. Saharat, one of the loan shark gang members, riding a motorcycle into soi Khaotalo, south Pattaya, moo 13, Banglamung. The police officer showed his identity and arrested him.

During questioning, Mr. Saharat confessed that he worked as a collector for a loan shark in soi Khaonoi. The owner of the loan business was Mr. Bool, whose surname he did not know.

Mr. Saharat said the interest rate on money borrowed was 20 percent, and he had been collecting from many clients. Most of them were merchants in fair markets, but Mr. Saharat said he had never hurt any of his clients.

After questioning him, the police told him of allegations against him before sending him and the evidence to the investigation team of Banglamung police station, sub branch Nongprue, for further investigation and prosecution.
