Police Checkpoints Causing ProblemsBusiness operators have complained to Pattaya officials after they had lost revenue due to the high fines the police were charging their customers who had rented their bikes.
PATTAYA – August 11,2015 [Pattaya Daily News]; A group of over 30 business operators who rent motorbikes in Pattaya city which was lead by Mr. Prasarn Nigaji. They went to complain to Pattaya administrators about the police who where setting up check point and over charging tourists who had rented their montorbikes.
The rented motorbike operators said that the checkpoints setup by traffic police all over Pattaya and the nearby areas targeted tourists on their rented bikes and charged them very high fines. The fines were still given out by the police even though the riders were carrying the correct documents and had their licensees. This type of action has caused the tourists to return their rented bike back and then ask for their money back causing the operators to lose revenue.
A representative of the group also said that if this issue is not solved as soon as possible it will impact the economy and tourism at Pattaya city and the rented bike business has been running for 2-3 decades.
Mr. Ronnakit Ekasing (Deputy Mayor of Pattaya City) explained that he will discuss the problem in the next committee meeting.
