Pm Confirms 2009 Economic Plans as Realistic, Practical

The government has a budget of Bt300 billlion to stimulate the economy next year, with budget also to be spent on projects to support the agricultural sector and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), he said.

The government’s economic plans will be proposed to Parliament in January and the government will likely be able to inject the money into the economy in March or April.

Mr. Abhisit said he could not tell how much the economy will expand in 2009 due to the uncertainty in November and December of this year. However, he will push for economic growth after it was forecast that the economy will ‘expand’ at zero per cent.

“The 2009 economic plan will be the best answer as to whether the government can tackle the problem at its root cause. I confirm that I’m not using my country as a guinea pig because all the measures are realistic and practical. We have already calculated the figure,” Mr. Abhisit said.

“We will prove the criticism that the government’s economic team is not professional to have been wrong,” the prime minister said. “Professional politicians must be determined and ready to quickly drive the policies into action.

If he could not solve the nation’s problems, Mr. Abhisit said, he has a clear position to give the chance to another to take his place. (TNA)
