The police investigation has become more complex, with a new report from the brother of Mr. Sompong Taptimthong’s estranged partner, Ms Nootsara Ang-silah, that the incident was a case of accidental, self-inflicted death.

Mr. Nopporn Roongsawang (23) a security man from Ambassador City Hotel, Jomtien, Ms Nootsara’s brother, surrendered himself to the Sattahip Chief of Police, Police Colonel Supatee Boonkrong, on 15 March, alleging that Mr. Sompong Taptimthong aka Mr. Kak, (42), had been shot by accident. Mr. Nopporn related how his distraught younger sister had phoned him early on the morning of 14 March, telling him that Mr. Kak had just beaten her up.

Mr. Nopporn then alleged that he had driven to comfort his sister, but on the way had seen Mr. Kak and stopped the car to confront him. At this point an argument had apparently developed. The enraged Mr. Kak then drew his gun and attempted to shoot Mr. Nopporn, but supposedly the bullet became stuck in the gun barrel. They then both grappled for the gun and somehow in the process, Mr. Kak managed to shoot himself through the back of the head, the bullet exiting through his forehead.

Mr. Nopporn told police that he then took the gun and threw it into the canal in front of Reun Yoongthong Village, Sattahip. He complained to the police that his sister was six months pregnant and asked how Mr. Kak, the father of the baby, could have treated her in such a fashion.

However, police were unsympathetic and Mr. Nopporn will be charged with unintentional assassination. The investigation will continue
