Planned UDD Red Shirt Gathering Hit By Heavy Storm

BANGKOK, May 10 Sunday's gathering of the anti-government United Front for Democracy against Dictatorship (UDD) had started as planned after the heavy storm had forced the delay of the gathering for two hours, from 4pm to 6pm.

The UDD demonstrators gathered on private property near a temple in Don Mueang district, in north suburban Bangkok. The Metropolitan Police Bureau dispatched some 450 police to provide security at the gathering site.

Core leaders Veera Musikapong, Nattawut Saikuea and Jatuporn Prompan were on stage to meet their supporters.

The red shirt leaders said that the gathering was to focus on the topic Truth Today, who hurts the public

Regarding the UDD accusation that Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajijva was not in a vehicle attacked by the red-shirt protesters at the Interior Ministry on April 12, Mr. Jatuporn said that photos and video footage showing the premier was not in the car will be shown at the rally.

He said the scene was fabricated by some military personnel to give legitimacy to the government in declaring the State of Emergency decree.

The prime minister earlier denied Mr. Jatuporn’s claim, reiterating he was in the car, saying he did not understand why the UDD leader made such a claim.

Mr. Jatuiporn said that ousted prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra would not address the Red Shirt gathering on Sunday night but that he had received a communication from former prime minister to the red shirt group to help bring the truth to public. (TNA)
