“Right now is low season in Phuket and the statistics say tourists population has decreased only by 10 per cent, which is a small number and normal for low season,” said Mr Phurit Maswongsa, Vice President of Phuket Tourist Association..

“The association doesn’t think that the decrease in the number of tourists was affected by the recent change in power.”

Mr Phurit went on to say that the decrease is more likely due to the long-term political problem in Bangkok.

In addition, the Director of Tourism Authority of Thailand [TAT] Ms Anoma Wongyai said echoed Mr Phurit’s sentiments.

“TAT welcomed 300 Indian tourists at the airport who were coming to Phuket to have a wedding ceremony. She said that noone asked much about the situation in Thailand because people understand it,” she said.
