Photo of “Gambling Policemen” Misleading, Police Commissioner Says

A police commissioner condemned a picture broadcast on the internet that had shown police at Muang Pattaya police station who were counting gambling evidence after an arrest. He said the video falsely suggested that the officers were gambling while on duty and had greatly harmed their reputations.

PATTAYA – July 11, 2012 [Pattaya Daily News]; At 1 p.m., Pol. Maj. Gen. Jamnong Rattanakul, commissioner of Chonburi provincial police; Pol. Col. Panchana Nutcha, director of Muang Pattaya police station; Pol. Lt. Col. Kiattisak Sratong-oi, vice director of suppression division; Pol. Serg. Thanakorn Jongpian, squad leader Suppression Division; along with police forces from suppression division; and a Mrs. Pusanuch Attrit, 34, gave information about a picture broadcast on the internet that seemed to suggest police officers were gambing on duty.

Mrs. Pusanuch said that she was one of the gambler arrested in the case when the video and photos of officers was taken. She said on that day, she was part of a gambling group that was arrested and brought in for processing on the 3rd floor of Rakwinai building. When the police officers were counting the evidence for the daily record, some journalists came in the room , but she did not know who shot the picture.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Jamnong Rattanakul said that the false video and photo made the police officers of Muang Pattaya police station lose their reputation, and they were despondent after that incident. It was a legitimate case of a gambling arrest, and they were counting evidence to do the arresting record when the photos were taken.

The officers whose reputations were injured made a request to track down the persons responsible for the damaging video and photos. They were later identified.

Pol. Serg. Thanakorn Jongpian said that he was sad about the dishonest photo, but he won’t be down-hearted and will keep working hard. But he felt sorry for his family, because his son did not want to go to school and get teased by classmates.

A Pattaya police supervisor acknowledged that a picture broadcast on the news that shows policemen apparently gambling was taken at the Pattaya police station. He said he will determine the facts before taking action, which will include punishment for any illegal activities.
