Phone Thief Tracked By GPS

Pattaya tourist police have arrested an Algerian thief that stole a Japanese tourist’s bag. The police tracked the GPS of the stolen phone to an apartment where they arrested the thief.

PATTAYA – August 8, 2014 [Pattaya Daily News]; at 4.30 a.m., Pol.Sub.Lt. Somchai Thassaneeyanon (Deputy Inspector of Tourist Police Station 4, Tourist Police Division) was notified by Mr Hidenabi Hobibe, aged 25 Japanese nationality that his bag had been stolen by a male foreign thief in Baccara Go-Go Bar, Walking Street. There was over 3,000 THB, some documents and 1 iPhone inside the bag. Pol.Sub.Lt. Somchai Thassaneeyanon then searched for the GPS signal of the victim’s iPhone to locate the thief.

 

The officer found that the GPS signal was coming from an apartment in Thapphraya, south Pattaya, Moo 10, Tambon Nong Prue, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province. The police then went to the apartment and the signal was coming from room no. 204 on the 2nd floor. In the room they found Mr Larbi Kbelifa, aged 44, Algerian nationality who was caught in possession of the stolen exhibits. The officer also found other bags, purses mobile phones etc which they assumed had been stolen by Mr. Larbi Kbelifa so the police kept them for evidence.

 

Initially, the police detained Mr. Larbi Kbelifa and sent him to the police station to be prosecuted further according to Thai law.
