Mr. Yongyuth said that MPs of the Pheu Thai Party (PTP) didn’t wish to be the new Prime Minister, but would pave the way for members of parliament of its allies from other parties to be considered.

Pheu Thai will hold talks with the other coalition parties on that issue but it had already had qualifications of the new prime minister, he said. The meeting of the PTP under a new banner which represented the reformed former ruling party, selected 13 executives on Sunday.

Panpri Pahitthanukorn, Plodprasop Suraswadi and Khanawat Wasinsangworn were selected as party deputy leaders while Sunee Luangwichit becomes the party’s secretary-general.

Mr. Sunee said there were 198 MPs under its umbrella so far and another eight MPs would join on Monday. Khanawat Wasinsangworn said the party could muster a coalition of more than 220 lawmakers.

The party will officially become operational after the Election Commission endorses the result of the party’s meeting, Mr. Yongyuth said, adding that his party will adhere to democratic rules. (TNA)
