PDN – Daily Meditation 5

Meditation is the practice of getting still and quiet, and going within. Its benefits include greater peace of mind, less stress, improved health, spiritual growth, sharper mental focus, and simple relaxation. Once a practice mainly of priests, gurus, and mystics, its popularity now extends to millions of people around the world. We invite our readers to enjoy the following meditation, designed to inspire peace, joy, and love in the spirit of the participant.

1. Get still and quiet in a place where you can expect to be undisturbed. Take a deep breath and hold it two seconds, then exhale. Close your eyes and do the same again. As you breath in, feel your body taking in oxygen and everything good, healthy, positive, nurturing.

2. As you exhale, feel yourself breathing out carbon dioxide and everything negative, unhealthy, toxic, unnecessary. Do this for a couple of minutes and feel yourself becoming healthier, happier, and more relaxed.

3. Say to yourself: I am never upset for the reason I think. I am never upset for the reason I think because I am constantly trying to justify my thoughts. I am constantly trying to make them true. I make all things my enemies, so that my anger is justified and my attacks are warranted. I have not realized how much I have misused everything I see by assigning this role to it. I have done this to defend a thought system that has hurt me, and that I no longer want. I am willing to let it go.

4. When you feel complete with this meditation, slowly and gently open your eyes. Resume your day’s activities, but return to the thought, “I am never upset for the reason I think,” as often as you wish.
